ELEMENTS 2.0

A redrawn public landscape

2020 was a year that effected all of us. Demands on social spaces changed completely ineverything from workplaces and residential areas to hotels and parks. The need for greater flexibility and access to open and inclusive spaces has increased significantly while the environmental aspect has a much clearer roll in everything we do.

- We’ve seen a change in how public spaces are viewed these past years. Investments are made much more long term which makes design, material choices and function much more important. Outdoor environments are also tied together with inside ones to a much higher degree, which is evident when talking to architects, says Samuel Johansson, CEO of Widala.

Widala continues its design collaboration with the Swedish Architecture and Design Agency Claesson Koivisto Rune, with furniture that reflects the times. We are continuing our focus on working with local and beautiful natural materials of the highest quality. New materials for this collection are, for example, natural tanned leather from Tärnsjö Tannery and limestone and granite from Slite on the island of Gotland and Kinnekulle in Västergötland in the Southwest of Sweden. Additions that simplify even further for architects, with variations that can be used for both indoor and outdoor environments. After receiving much attention and several publications, we are now expanding our popular furniture series Elements with straight shapes, backrests and planters.

- This upgrade of the series feels like it fits with the times and it is fun and exciting to be able to offer so many variations and possibilities from local producers combined with the unique and timeless design that Claesson Koivisto Rune represent, Samuel Johansson continuous.

Furniture- and grill series Elements with heat-treated Swedish wood was launched for the first time in 2017, built on inspiration from the different elements of nature.

- The first launch of Elements grill and furniture cannot be described as anything other than a complete success. We had achieved what we had set out to do, to create robust and at the same time beautiful furniture for most types of public environments. The new designs that are presented in Elements 2.0, together with a lot of the choices of materials and colours makes the series a complete system that, to an even greater extent, can be used in environments where outside meets inside, an indoor plaza and other exciting environments, says Mårten Claesson of Claesson Koivisto Rune.

New sustainable materials

As a continuation of Widala’s focus on materials from the fantastic Swedish nature we have during the fall of 2020, launched versions of Kalksten and Granit that are combined with different steel colours. Let your imagination run free and combine with our heat-treated wood or naturally tanned leather from Tärnsjö. These materials will create magically beautiful spaces for many years to come!

New colour combinations

The new materials and colours span from warm to cold, light to dark, soft to hard. The greyish-green limestone from Kinnekulle matched with the green steel and heat-treated birch creates warmth. The raw hot-dip galvanized surface with black granite combined with the black leather creates a sterner feeling.

Back rests

Back rests are a long-awaited complement to Elements, and we are so happy with the result. The dainty design that still manages to offer a comfortable sitting position. The back rests were launched for all benches with the curved bench in to versions, one for outside and one for inside.
